Explosive debate erupts as human rights boss faces gender row

You’re told this is about human rights.

But it starts by asking you to deny reality.

Hugh de Kretser believes that supporting the idea that men can be women is not just compatible with human rights—it’s essential.

And somehow, he insists, it doesn’t conflict with women’s rights at all.

No Conflict?

He claims that calling trans women “biological men” is a denial of existence.

He sees no tension. No trade-offs. No collision with reality.

Just rights—expanding cleanly in every direction.

But that’s not what’s happening.

The Question That Won’t Go Away

Last week, Parents of Adolescents with Gender Distress challenged the Commission’s “Equal Identities” report.

At the National Press Club, the issue was put plainly.

What about the science?

What about the risks?

And what about children—who may not fully understand what’s being done to them?

The question cut to the core: if the evidence is unsettled, why back irreversible medical interventions for minors at all?

The answer revealed everything.

“Best Interests” — Or Something Else?

De Kretser said the Commission follows a “human rights point of view.”

The best interests of the child, he claimed, are the guiding compass.

Health. Wellbeing. Rights.

That’s the framework.

But it collapses on contact with reality.

We don’t affirm a child’s anorexia.

We don’t validate self-harm.

We don’t treat distress by cementing it into identity and calling it care.

So why here?

A Line We Refuse to Draw

Around the world, evidence continues to mount: “affirmation” pathways for gender distress carry serious risks.

Irreversible consequences.

Outcomes that often fail to resolve the distress itself.

And yet, those concerns are waved aside.

Desire is elevated above evidence.

If you are serious about loving your neighbour and seeking first the Kingdom of God, do not miss the next Church And State conference near you.

A child in Australia cannot consent to marriage.

They cannot get a tattoo.

They cannot operate machinery or even cross a school zone alone without supervision.

But we are told they can consent to medical interventions that may leave them infertile.

That may affect sexual function.

That may alter heart, bone, and brain development.

This is called “best interests.”

The Conflict Everyone Can See

De Kretser insists there is no conflict between the rights of women and the rights of trans-identified males.

None.

But look closer.

Female athletes are being required to compete against males—and sign agreements not to object.

Female prisoners are being assaulted by male inmates housed in women’s facilities.

Women are expected to share private spaces with males displaying overt sexual behaviour.

This isn’t theoretical.

It’s happening.

When Reality Breaks Through

Consider Sall Grover, penalised for creating a female-only app.

Or the Lesbian Action Group, told it must admit males into its meetings.

Or the legal consequences faced by women who object—fines, damages, silence.

The message is clear.

Comply, or pay.

The Line That Still Matters

No one is denying anyone’s existence.

That’s a distraction.

The question is whether one group’s claims override another’s rights—completely, and without limit.

Because that’s where this leads.

Men in women’s spaces.

Men in women’s sports.

Men defining what a woman is—and what she’s allowed to say about it.

Call it inclusion if you want.

But don’t pretend there’s no cost.

There is.

And women are the ones paying it.

Too good not to SHARE!
