The Summit Program

Friday, 28 February 2020 – BRISBANE

The Friday afternoon sessions are specifically prepared for pastors & others in Christian leadership, but open to all.

12:30pm – Feed My Sheep – Dr Michael Brown
What is it that average Christians in our churches want to be taught about the most – but aren’t getting? Dr Brown unpacks reliable research from Barna to answer this question definitively, and then encourage and equip us on how we can deliver that as preachers with a pulpit and feed the sheep what they’re hungry for.

1:30pm – Pastors, Politicians, Politics & Pulpits – Rev Dr Mark Robinson MP, Ps James Macpherson, Fiona Simpson MP, Ps Sam Gunsser, Ps Patsy Cameneti, Dave Pellowe
Real Experiences & Collective Wisdom – What should ministers do when a church member wants to run for politics or promote issues? How can ministers teach their congregation to be better stewards of the gifts of a liberal, inclusive democracy? Is it wrong to publicly back a party, person or policy? Is it possible to promote any wisely without creating division?

2:50pm – How to think (in a world that’s lost its mind) – Ps James Macpherson
We are the most educated generation in history and yet the most confused. This is not a surprise. The Bible teaches that in the last days, a moral breakdown of the culture would go hand in glove with a mental breakdown. How can the Church respond with clear thinking? This session is an invaluable tool for Christian ministers, leaders and parents helping others find their way.

3:35pm – The Beautiful Church of the City – Ps Ian Shelton
What does the Bible say about reaching our cities? Churches in cities around the world are simultaneously discovering the multiplied effectiveness when local pastors and marketplace leaders honour each other and agree together for a greater release of God’s glory in their city. Hear testimonies and teaching to excite you about blessing and discipling your whole city.

4:20pm – Activating Youth for Kingdom Justice – Rebecca Gosper
Our young people – high school and university age – are constantly bombarded by the world through Hollywood, mainstream media and social media about social justice issues they should be fighting for, but how can pastors activate their youth on ‘controversial’ issues such as “You shall not murder”?

6:15pm – Pray for Those In Authority – Ps Patsy Cameneti
The single most potent weapon at our disposal is our authority as believers in Jesus Christ. Let’s agree in His Name for our leaders to have wisdom, justice, integrity & effectiveness in governing the affairs of our nation, and that we His people may be good stewards of the gifts of an inclusive, liberal democracy such as we still enjoy.

7:00pm – Worship – Andrew Dicuwollah
Join believers from across the denominations to declare Jesus is Lord over Australia! Whatever may happen in our state and federal Parliaments, God Almighty remains sovereign and above all.

7:20pm – Victim to Victorious – Bindi Cole Chocka
Bindi’s story is one of “beauty for ashes”. Child neglect, drug abuse & dealing, years in prison, success & influence, national celebrity as one of those who prevailed against Andrew Bolt with a Racial Discrimination Act complaint in court, followed by miraculous repentance & conversion to Christ. This Aboriginal/Irish/Jewish Australian woman has much to teach about forgiveness & grace!

7:50pm – A Virtuous People – Sen Eric Abetz
Democracy derives it’s values from a sense of good & bad which requires a consistent worldview. People need a moral compass to authorise government to encourage good behaviour and discourage bad behaviour. From where do Australians derive their sense of right and wrong?

8:20pm – Jezebel’s War on Australia – Dr Michael Brown
Not the person or the ghost, but the same demonic powers that operated through her & which Jesus identified is at work to destroy your divine blessings and authority. Identify that spirit in Western phenomena such as idolatry, promiscuity, abortion, radical feminism, gender theory, witchcraft, religious persecution – and learn how to defeat it in Jesus’ Name.

9:00am – Prophetic Parallels of John the Baptist & the Church – Ps Joshua Pellowe
John was filled with the Spirit which meant he lived a life of presence and power. He turned many hearts back to God. He wasn’t just an observer of the establishment of God’s Kingdom, but an active participant speaking to not only eternal Truth and salvation, but social policy, justice and publicly calling for repentance from immorality. He lived a life that visibly demonstrated the Kingdom of Heaven while declaring our soon-coming King.

9:45am – Understanding Religious Freedom in Australia from a Christian Perspective – Dr Alex Deagon
Religious freedom has been an issue of major political controversy over the past couple of years in Australia. You will gain an overview of religious freedom from a Christian perspective to help you engage informatively and publicly in this space. Dr Deagon will define religious freedom, overview the theological foundations for religious freedom, discuss our current legal context for religious freedom, and finish with some reflections on how we as Christians can effectively advocate for religious freedom.

11:00am – Questioning Euthanasia – Prof Margaret Somerville
How will your great, great grandchildren die? Should doctors kill patients? How is euthanasia promoted? What is euthanasia? What isn’t euthanasia? What is “voluntary assisted dying”, and is there an involuntary kind? Why are Victoria, Western Australia, New South Wales & Queensland rushing to change their relevant laws?

11:45am – Intervening in Injustice – Dave Pellowe
While William Wilberforce was a gifted statesman with a spine of steel, it was the first ever grass-roots human rights campaign by Christians which moved British culture over a generation to abolish the injustice of slavery in the Empire. How can we strategically change not just the oppressive laws of our time, but the culture which enables them?

1:30pm – Anti-Semitism in Religion – Dr Michael Brown
It’s not hard to spot contemporary anti-Israel activists: the BDS movement, the United Nations’ disproportionate obsession with Israel and extreme political-left & right philosophies. But what about Church history and even contemporary “Christian” manifestations of anti-Semitism: are we aware just how stained with Jewish blood our hands are?

2:15pm – The evolution of Marxism – Bill Muehlenberg
It may have started as an uprising of the working masses against the captains of industry & landed aristocracy, but in the face of failure in prosperous and free Western democracies Marxist revolution has required evolution to survive… and evolve it did, dividing society once again in an effort to overthrow everything traditional, established and tested by time – like religion & family.
